AMC Gremlin is the work of Andrew Collins, sing-songer, drone-zoner, button-pusher, and multi-instrumentalist. After his group, guitarmonizing obscuro-rockers The Skeletones Four, were scattered far and wide, beginning an indefinite, ongoing, and probably permanent hiatus, Andrew shifted focus onto his own solo recording practice.
The AMC Gremlin sound arcs stylistically between retrofuturistic blips, bloops, and drones, soothing synth pads aching with nostalgia, melancholic power pop ballads, math-adjacent softcore punk, and the pleasant AM/FM gold heard in the waiting rooms, offices, and shopping malls of yesteryear.
return to cloud city was recorded over three years, from the summer of twenty nineteen to the fall of twenty twenty-two. Months before the outbreak of an airborne virus, the world had already collapsed in on itself. Death opened a void, and then the void began to expand.
When experiencing music the self sometimes melts away and it dawns that no absence is ever total, no loss complete, that something always remains and connections are never severed completely. Those we thought gone forever can be sensed in the static of the universe. The rhythm is the bass and the bass is the treble.
Life is steeped in sadness but alongside rivers of grief, strange and wonderful foliage grows. The world overflows with beauty and inexplicable coincidence. It melts the mind that we are alive even for a moment.
As water vapor condenses in the air, these songs took form slowly, imperceptibly – sound and melody gathering around infinitesimal floating dust particles.
